Coaches, Parents and Friends,

I recently became aware of a wonderful event that will be helping the youth of families who may be experiencing hardships due to the recent economy. The event is the “Run Through the Roses”, which is a 5k and 10k run to be held here in Madison. The organizers and the City of Madison Parks and Recreation Department have teamed up to provide a “Scholarship Fund” to help provide assistance to these kids so they can participate in local sporting leagues and events.

The run will be held May 7th and thanks to the wonderful sponsors all registration fees will go directly to the fund. This is a great opportunity, whether you’re an avid runner or just starting out, to join in the fun and help a local youth be able to play sports.

The Madison Baseball Association’s (MBA) Opening Day Ceremony is set for April 9th at Palmer Park. The MBA, on behalf of the Scholarship Fund, will be setting up a collection box for you to bring your gently used sports equipment to help support this cause. I ask that you please check your closets, garages and sport bags for any equipment you feel you will not be using; both boys and girls. Tennis, soccer, football, any of the sports that you see our kids playing in our parks will be gladly accepted.

Additional information about the run can be found at the link in the opening paragraph. I ask that you please take a moment to check for items and bring them to Palmer Park on opening day.

I thank you for your time and ask for your support. If you should have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Best regards,

Mitchell Williams

MBA Equipment Manager
